Recipes!!

Here are the recipes from the Camp Leader retreat. Enjoy!!

Camp Fire Mac and cheese

  • 1 (4 3/8-inch) disposable aluminum pie pan or small loaf pans
  • 1/2 cup cooked elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup shredded Cheddar
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12- by 16-inch piece of foil
How to make it:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in pans. Then seal it in foil (a double layer if you're cooking over an open flame) as shown, folding over the extra foil at the top to make a sturdy handle to poke a stick or tongs through.
  2. Hold the packet over a campfire or set it directly on a grill to melt the cheese, about 7 minutes. Let the pack cool briefly, then open it carefully. Stir the mac and cheese before eating it.

* Variation for Alfredo Sauce
Use 2 tbsp of Cream Cheese and a ¼ parmesan cheese instead of Cheddar

Cafe Rio Creamy Dressing
Combine the following ingredients in the blender and blend until creamy:
  • 1 package Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix
  • 1 Cup Mayo
  • 1 C chopped Cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 tomatillos
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Cafe Rio Sweet Pork
Ingredients
  • 2-3 lbs. boneless pork (carnitas, shoulder etc)
  • 1 12 ox. can Coke
  • 1/4 c brown sugar
  • 1 12 oz. can enchilada sauce
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 small can diced greenchileis
  • 3/4 C brown sugar
Instructions
  • Marinade pork for at least 2 hours or overnight in can of coke and 1/4 C brown sugar.
  • Pour pork and liquid into crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  • Remove meat and shred. Discard liquid
  • Put meat back in crock pot and add enchilada sauce, garlic, green chilies and brown sugar.
  • Cook for 30-60 more minutes. If there is excess liquid drain some off
Don't forget you can cook the pork ahead of time and freeze it, then just reheat at camp. Just like Sister Pili demonstrated for us at the leader retreat!

Daily Themes

These are the daily themes that the stake will be incorporating into our devotionals and daily activities. You are welcome to also use them if you would like to!

Tuesday- "She's just a girl and she's on fire." Each YW is a Daughter of God and needs to know WHO they are.

Wednesday - "They can see the flame that's in her eyes." Each YW can BE a Shining example in dress, speech, music and action

Thursday - "She's got both feet on the ground and she's burning it down." Each YW can BE firm and establish a foundation in daily scriptures and prayer. Stand in Holy Places!

Friday - "Hottest of the hottest Girls." These are the YW who are modest, virtuous and preparing for temple marriage.

Saturday - "You can try but you'll never forget her name." Encourage the YW to go forth and share their flame, testimony and light.

Certification Clinic

Our stake will hold a camp certification clinic on Saturday April 27th from 10-12 at the Stake Center.

We will only be passing off all the first aid requirements. All other certification will need to be done an the ward level.

We would love to certify each of your YW on their first aid requirements that day, so be sure to put it on your calendars.
We recommend that each ward pass off as many of the other certification requirements as possible before going up to camp.

If you need help or have questions on any of the other certification requirements, please feel free to contact Tilila Paongo, our stake  certification specialist.

Camp Kickoff!

Our camp kickoff was held on March 7th at the Stake Center and was AMAZING!! THere were great cheers, beautiful banners, a spiritual program and prizes given out to several wards.

Lori Fano, Makay Tautu, Joann AhYou, Luisa Kuaea and Julie Kaio
We were excited to introduce the theme to the YW and help them feel of the power that comes from a strong testimony.  We shared examples of women who has that fire from the scriptures and encouraged the girls to keep their fires burning strong!

The decorations were so colorful and beautiful!
Each DISTRICT (Ward) brought a banner that represented the value that they were assigned. There were many creative and beautiful banners!

Each YW and leader had the chance to writer their testimony on a small colored flag which will be hung at girls camp. If girls in your ward were not able to attend we would still love for them to participate in this.
We ended the evening with comments from President Paongo. He is FIRED UP and encouraged every young woman to make the commitment to be girls camp. After the program we had these yummy cupcakes.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING:
*Penny Vaea who wrote and oversaw the program
*Manu Harris for her work with the Girl on Fire Music
*Heather Ried for the costumes
*Lori Fano, Makay Tautu, Joann AhYou, Luisa Kuaea and Julie Kaio for their parts in the program
*Brother Vaea and his helpers for the music and sound effects
*Everyone who helped decorate and clean up
*All the YCLs and Leaders who participated. We couldn't have done it with out you!

—Ezra Taft Benson
